I. Physician Profile
Yao Wenjie, art name Yuanjizi, was born in July 1980 into a family of medical practitioners. He is now a Licensed TCM Physician, qualified in Traditional Chinese Medicine, with a scope of practice in Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine. He works at Zhitao Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Clinic in Nanning, Guangxi. As an inheritor of Xuanyan Dao Culture and practitioner of the TCM "Harmony-Integration School", he has practiced clinical medicine for nearly two decades. In recent years, he has wholeheartedly devoted himself to promoting TCM health preservation culture, striving to bring the wisdom of TCM wellness into the daily lives of thousands of households.
In recent years, Yao Wenjie has been featured in an exclusive interview on Healthy China of Hong Kong TV Chinese Channel and appeared on Dialogue with National Brands, hosted by Cui Yinmo, a renowned presenter from China Media Group, and was awarded the title of Special Guest. In June 2026, he represented Xuanyan Dao Culture at the Global Diplomat Carnival Night & Grand Ceremony for TCM Essence Going Global. He signed an international cooperation agreement for TCM global outreach with overseas partners, received the plaque of Strategic Cooperation TCM Practitioner, and was appointed as the Global Image Ambassador and Health Consultant for TCM Global Outreach for a three-year term.
II. Clinical Reflections: Awakening from "Treating Illness" to "Treating the Person"
Yao Wenjie’s medical journey began with family influence. His father was a physician, and Yao grew up by his father’s side, immersed in medical knowledge from an early age. In 2003, he was admitted to major in Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, systematically studying theories of modern medicine and traditional Chinese medicine. After graduation, he returned to a grassroots health clinic and started with basic diagnosis and treatment.
Nevertheless, as his clinical experience accumulated, Yao Wenjie gradually fell into deep reflection. He found that for many chronic and lifestyle-related diseases in clinical practice, medication could only relieve symptoms, failing to resolve root causes. Patients’ indicators improved while taking medicine, yet their conditions relapsed once they returned to their old lifestyles. He came to realize clearly: many illnesses cannot be completely cured by drugs alone. The true roots of disease lie in day-to-day diet, rest, emotions and physical activity. Treating existing illnesses is downstream intervention, while preventive treatment of disease is upstream regulation. Only by embedding holistic health concepts into daily life can diseases be prevented before they arise. This insight marked the starting point of Yao Wenjie’s transition from clinical TCM practice to TCM wellness promotion.
III. Apprenticeship with Xuanyan Dao: Setting Firm Foot on the Path of Wellness Culture Promotion
The year 2016 marked a critical turning point in Yao Wenjie’s medical career. That year, he encountered free public lectures by Mr. Liu Xuanyan, founder of Xuanyan Dao Culture and popular science educator of TCM wellness, on multiple online platforms. He was deeply inspired by Liu Xuanyan’s interpretation of TCM — understanding TCM from daily life, the growth of herbal medicine from farming, the five flavors of Chinese herbs and the opening-closing mechanism of visceral qi from cooking, and the origins of diseases from one’s temperament and innate disposition. This style of teaching, which restores TCM to the harmonious relationship between human life and nature, resonated strongly with Yao Wenjie’s idea of making wellness practical, bringing him sudden enlightenment.
What Yao Wenjie admired even more was that Liu Xuanyan mastered not only the wisdom of TCM wellness but also possessed profound attainments in fine traditional Chinese culture. He often told his disciples: “We must inherit China’s outstanding culture, otherwise we fail our ancient sages.” These words were deeply etched in Yao Wenjie’s mind. He understood that for a TCM practitioner, medical skills alone are insufficient. One must also have rich cultural literacy and command knowledge spanning ancient and modern times to truly understand human beings. Therefore, Yao Wenjie formally embarked on a decade-long journey of studying under his mentor. During these ten years, he systematically studied TCM wellness classics alongside his mentor and read extensively on ancient texts of fine traditional Chinese culture. His mentor’s academic attitude of breaking sectarian barriers and encouraging drawing strengths from all schools profoundly shaped Yao Wenjie’s academic character.
While learning under his mentor, Yao Wenjie traveled across the country with him, experiencing perse local customs. From the hot-humid Lingnan region to the cold northern lands, from water towns in the Jiangnan area to the northwest plateau, the climate, diet and lifestyles of different regions granted him firsthand understanding of treatment principles: adapting to seasons, local conditions and inpidual constitutions. This strengthened his resolve to promote wellness culture together with his mentor. He knew wellness is no empty concept; it ought to be integrated into every family, every meal and every daily routine.
IV. The "Harmony-Integration School": Diligently Studying Ancient Teachings and Learning Broadly from All Masters
Through long-term study and practice, Yao Wenjie gradually developed his own academic style, which he named the TCM "Harmony-Integration School". The core of "harmony-integration" lies in diligently seeking ancient precepts and absorbing strengths from perse schools. This was the earnest instruction from Zhang Zhongjing, the Sage of Medicine, in the preface to Treatise on Febrile and Miscellaneous Diseases, and has remained Yao Wenjie’s consistent academic principle. Having majored in Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine, Yao received systematic training in modern medicine. After becoming an apprentice, he extensively explored academic thoughts from various schools of traditional TCM wellness. He never confined himself to a single school of thought; he was willing to read and study any work offering unique interpretations of the classics.
“Harmony-integration” is not simple patchwork, but absorbing merits from different schools on the basis of thorough comprehension of their essences. In clinical work, Yao Wenjie insists on comprehensive syndrome differentiation and flexibly adopts therapeutic ideas and methods from different schools according to each patient’s specific condition. He follows ancient methods without rigidity, embraces new knowledge while keeping his original aspiration. With humility and benevolence, he delves into clinical practice and heals people through inclusive scholarship.

V. Further Apprenticeship with Eminent Masters: A World Beyond Sect Boundaries
The Xuanyan Dao community has long rejected sectarian limitations and advocates learning widely from perse sources, encouraging lifelong study for its followers. Mr. Liu Xuanyan understands that one person’s knowledge and vision are inherently limited. A true inheritor must continuously learn from different distinguished masters. Guided by this philosophy, Liu Xuanyan recommended Yao Wenjie to pursue further studies outside the sect. Yao became an apprentice under National Master of Chinese Medicine Li Diangui. Professor Li Diangui is a renowned TCM scholar and National Master of Chinese Medicine with profound achievements in TCM treatment of spleen and stomach disorders. His pioneering “Turbid-Toxin Theory” has exerted far-reaching influence in academia. After apprenticeship, Yao Wenjie systematically learned Professor Li’s academic thoughts and clinical experience, while continuing to travel and visit famous physicians nationwide. The teachings and personal example of the National Master elevated Yao’s understanding of TCM to a new level. Master Li once inscribed the phrase Great Physicians Exhibit Sincerity and Devotion for Yao Wenjie. Those four words serve both as encouragement and the code of medical practice he always bears in mind.
VI. Treating Existing Diseases and Preventing Diseases: A Dual-Driven Mission for Health
Today, Yao Wenjie follows a dual-track path: treating existing illnesses with TCM and preventing diseases through wellness preservation. On the clinical frontline, he diagnoses and treats patients with exquisite medical skills. In the field of wellness culture promotion, he leads the TCM Wellness Popular Science Department of Xuanyan Dao to deliver public welfare lectures and promote dietary nourishment widely. He transforms TCM wellness culture into an accessible, practical lifestyle for ordinary people, committed to bringing TCM wellness wisdom into thousands of families. He firmly believes clinical treatment and preventive wellness are two sides of the same health philosophy: the former safeguards the present, the latter looks to the future; the former treats inpiduals, the latter benefits the public. Only by combining both can we fully meet people’s health needs and fulfill the millennial ideal that “the superior physician prevents illness”
From a young doctor at a grassroots health clinic to an inheritor of Xuanyan Dao Culture; from a seeker visiting distinguished physicians to a practitioner of the Harmony-Integration School; from a clinical TCM practitioner to a promoter of wellness culture — every step Yao Wenjie takes is steady and resolute. He often says he himself is imperfect, yet the knowledge of ancient sages is perfect, so he dares not slacken in academic research. The inheritance of Chinese medicine is a millennial relay race. Yao Wenjie, art name Yuanjizi, takes “harmony and integration” as his guiding principle, “sincerity and devotion” as his heart, and “treating existing illnesses plus preventing illnesses” as his path. In this relay, he is running his own leg of the race.
